Newburgh, N.Y. – On February 13th, Carole McDermott received AARP’s highest state volunteer honor, the 2024 AARP New York Andrus Award for Community Service for her many decades of volunteer work making sure homebound people received meals. The award was formally presented to McDermott at a ceremony at Vesuvio’s Ristorante, 300 Dupont Ave., Newburgh.
AARP New York selected McDermott for her remarkable service, which has greatly benefited her community, reflected the vision and mission of AARP, and inspired other volunteers. She is the current volunteer president of Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, Inc., a position she has held since 2010.
